If you’ve ever had an iPod Touch/iPhone, you may notice that the error “iPod is disabled – Connect to iTunes” may appear. This is because someone (or something?) has tried to crack your password too many times, which causes the iPod / iPhone to automatically disable itself to protect your data.
To restore your iPod, you must connect your iPod to iTunes with your iPod connector table. Make sure it is on and has this message when you connect it to your computer. Once connected, iTunes should detect it as usual.
Once connected, make sure you have all the proper sync settings enabled — for example, applications, music, photos, etc. Change something so that the Sync button in the bottom right appears in the iTunes window. Then sync the data.
When syncing is finished, turn on your iPod / iPhone and you should notice that the message is gone. Type in your password and the disabled message should be gone.
If the message is still there, try holding the sleep and home button at the same time until the iPod turns off, then continue holding the sleep and home button until a screen with the iTunes logo and a picture of the connector cable appears. This will put your iPod in Restore mode. With this option, you must click the Restore button in iTunes, which will delete all your data on the iPod.

Hi, Im Lacey. My iPod says “iPod is disabled connect to iTunes”. It wont let me slide a slider thing, and I have tried numerous things to unlock my iPod because my Dad tried to look at my personal things on it. I have held down the “off” button and the “home” button at the same time, and all these other combinations with the buttons. Can anyone help me with my 8gb 4th gen iPod touch? Thankyou.
Hey Lacey:
So you’ve tried all the steps in the Apple link here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 and still no success? If so, try contacting your local Apple genius bar (Apple store)
what happens if you have never connected ur ipod to i tunes before and you r trying to reset it?
Hey wac, I’m not too sure, but it’ll probably prompt you with either a setup screen or do nothing out of the ordinary.
my laptop doesnt recognize the ipod and it doesnt let me reset or anything
what do i do ?
Hey Jackie: If you’ve already tried all the steps above, then I would recommend contacting Apple especially if you still have warranty for it
